A long time ago, I was in Ghana and bought a necklace and earrings for my wife from a boy named Joshua (or perhaps Kofi — I can’t quite remember). Every day, Joshua walks several kilometers to the ocean through thickets filled with danger. He collects sea glass that has been polished for years, sometimes even centuries, by the water and sand. When there are no customers, he sits in his tiny shop made of branches and palm leaves, reading the Bible. A simple life and a simple, accessible kind of happiness.”
